How to Deliver in Tough Conditions

Delivering goods, whether it’s packages or products, is a job made exponentially harder by tough conditions. Delivering a shipment to a basement in an old building that lacks an elevator means using the stairs. Uneven ground can significantly slow down two wheeled dollies. Tight spaces limit the amount of product you can unload at any given time.

These tips will help you tackle out-of-the-ordinary delivery conditions and get your package or load to the destination with little hassle.

Stairs

In many buildings, delivering to the right floor is easy with access to an elevator. However, there are many old buildings with no elevator access. There are two ways to deal with this: A stair climbing kit for your hand truck, or a powered stair climbing dolly.

A climbing kit adds glide bars to a traditional dolly, making it much easier to pull the dolly up or down stairs. A powered stair climbing dolly, on the other hand, uses a motor and climbing mechanism to do most of the work for you, whether going up or down stairs.

Tight Spaces

Using the wrong equipment means tight spaces restrict how far you can bring the product into a store. For example, fridges and freezers tend to be narrow and hard to maneuver for many delivery tools. The worst-case scenario is carrying each box or flat of product in one at a time. In this situation, your best option is to use a u boat cart. These are slim enough to fit into a retail walk-in refrigerator but wide enough to hold boxes of drinks.

The best u boat carts have removable handles, enabling you to unload from any angle, easily making use of the tight space. Instead of leaving your too-wide platform truck outside the fridge and continually going in and out to unload product, the u boat cart can go in the fridge, enabling faster unloading. This saves you time, which in turn saves you money, and gets you to the next delivery.

Uneven Ground

Using a traditional hand truck over uneven ground may slow you down and could potentially cause you to pitch over. If your load is not secured to the dolly, you could be faced with product strewn about. The key problem is only having two wheels. While a hand truck is the ideal tool for transporting materials on level ground, it is not as steady on uneven ground. A powered u boat cart fares better, with six wheels that are offset to tackle uneven ground, and motorized assistance. Troublesome thresholds and inclines or declines will no longer hinder your delivery, with the motor doing the majority of the work.
