Be Sure You Have the Right Tools Before Your Summer Building or Renovation Projects

Summer often provides only a short window of prime landscaping and renovation time. It’s important to have all the equipment you’ll need before a project begins in order to reduce delays. For a residential project undertaken on your property—building a shed or fixing up an outbuilding—specialized construction equipment like a powered hand lift truck or industrial impact wrench aren’t going to as necessary. Here is a short list of the sort of tools that are versatile and handy enough for every homeowner to consider for outdoor projects.

Reciprocating Saw for Tough Cutting Jobs

Think of a reciprocating saw like a heavy-duty electric knife. A straight, horizontal blade reciprocates back and forth at high speed. A reciprocating saw can be used on lumber, branches, drywall, and pretty much anything else that can be sawed through with steel. There are carbide blades that can even buzz through metal. They are not for delicate cutting work but are terrific all-purpose tools that cut quickly and with an impressive level of precision.

Hand Truck and Wheelbarrow

Everyone should have at least a good hand truck and wheelbarrow. For some projects a cart can come in handy as well. Wheelbarrows are great for moving looser, miscellaneous loads: loose soil, fertilizer, mulch, rocks, scraps, turf, and so on. Hand trucks are a must-have for moving anything that can be stacked upon it: lumber, boulders, heavier equipment, stacks of paving stones, bags of cement, etc. A high-quality traditional hand truck, like a Magliner, is pretty sturdy, so if you’re not a professional furniture mover an appliance hand truck shouldn’t be necessary. A classic or convertible hand truck should do.

Personal Protective Equipment

All the preparation in the world doesn’t help much if you’re injured on the first day of your project. For the sake of your job, and, more importantly, your body, have and always use personal protective equipment. Have a pair of thick leather or canvas work gloves for heavier work and a thinner pair with a nitrile or rubber gripping layer for finer work. Invest in some dust masks, safety glasses, and close-toed, anti-slip boots or shoes—with steel toes for heavier work. Don’t forget a good pair of noise-canceling earmuffs if you’ll be using any power tools.

Wet/Dry Shop Vacuum

Wet/dry shop vacuums aren’t as universally appreciated and owned as they should be. That’s perhaps due to an assumption that they’re too expensive to be bothered with by the average homeowner. Not so. An excellent quality wet/dry shop vac can be picked up for a reasonably affordable price. A wet/dry shop vac can handle cleaning up piles of sawdust, spills, or that nasty pile in the middle of the garage floor when you’re done sweeping. It’s one of those tools you’ll wonder how your ever did without it.

About Magline

Magline is easily one of the best-known and most trusted names in the material handling industry. The name is such a byword for trusted and valued material handling equipment that any hand truck, no matter its original brand, is often referred to as a “Magliner.” Unfortunately for those brands, being called a Magliner is no substitute for the real thing. Magline has been engineering and producing the sturdiest, the most reliable, and the easiest-to-use material handling equipment in the industry for over 70 years. Along with their renowned classic hand trucks, they offer a wide selection of more specialized options, including a lift hand truck line, a stair climbing cart selection, a convertible/collapsible hand truck series, and a whole lot more.
